On The Formation And Characteristics Of The Typeface

Character typefaces take a very important place during the graphic design, but we find the theory is behind of the practice when we do the researching about the character typeface. It's not difficult to find that designers are trying all kind of varieties for the character typeface in graphic design on the different exhibitions and contests,but at the same time,there has not been having the supporting of pertinent theory for them.The signification of this thesis is exploring its spiritual connotation through the researching about the origin, style and form of the Song typeface, closing the gap between the traditional theory of characters and design practices through analysing the example of characters, providing the reference for the relevant practice, inspiring more various creative thinking.The purpose of this thesis is choosing the theories from the perspective of graphic design which can be used for the direct guiding to discuss ,which can do some useful exploration on the improvement for the typeface design.The thesis take the calligraphy history, school version, printing history and the relevant knowledge of philology as footholds, with a large number of graphic analysis method, describes the acknowledge of author about the song typeface from the form to the structure, as well as the application and evaluation in modern design. The thesis which is divided into four chapters, analyses the origin of song typeface from both internal and external causes and the configuration character and the strokes of song typeface,which explore the potential ethos of it, discusses the use in graphic design lastly.
