Different responses can be brought with the same individual in different language conditions. This phenomenon is called Language Effect (or Language Priming Effect). In 1969, Earle first conducted a research on Language Effect. She found that language can guide bilinguals to respond in a special way according to the two language and culture. This research caught extensive attention immediately, and lots of researched about language effect appeared for not too long. What researchers found were that language effect could happen in many levels, such as values, beliefs. What is more, even individual thought and self-pattern can be differed within different language conditions. The same time when language effect can be available in new fields and regions, direction of language effect is not alone either. Initial researches in language effect demonstrate, language conditions can induce subjects to behave in a way which is matching with the culture according to the language (ie assimilation effect). Afterwards, researchers found language can lead a behavior mode in the opposite direction (ie contrast effect). Whether language can due to assimilation effect or contrast effect, researchers have different knowledge. Latest research discover that culture identification have an important impact in the direction of language effect. When materials for memory is related with individual self, memory effect can be better than semantic coding. This is called Self-Reference Effect (abbreviated as SRE). Initial researches on SRE formed identical knowledge on psychological mechanism and function mode. Zhu Ying found that Chinese individual self is different from the West counterpart. Chinese people not only showed similar SRE with West people in memory experiment, but also showed unique mother-reference effect. However, latest research demonstrated that mother-reference effect can disappear in west culture priming condition. In Experiment 1, we adopted learning—free-recall paradigm to conduct a research on two reference coding conditions in different languages. And there were no interaction effect found between language and coding conditions. Important to mention, mother-reference memory is much better in English condition that Chinese condition. We regard this output is related with the variance between different coding material in Experiment 1. So, we dill adopt new material-obtaining way to validate it in Experiment 2.In Experiment 1, we adopted learning—free-recall paradigm to conduct a research on two reference coding conditions in different languages. We found significant interaction effect between language and reference coding conditions, ie mother-reference coding have a better memory in English condition than Chinese condition. Secondly, culture identification varies in different language conditions. Besides that, positive effect is existed in SRE, but not in mother-reference effect.
