| This thesis takes investigation into Wu Guangjian's Xia Yin Ji, the first Chinese translation of The Three Musketeers of Alexandre Dumas Pere, and intends to reveal the significance of this Chinese translational text to the birth and development of historical novel in modern period (1872-1919).This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the birth and inner meaning of historical novel. The second analyzes the translational phenomenon of Dumas's historical novels during the modern period and takes studies of its influence and reception in China. And the third part takes a close reading of Xia Yin Ji for discussing Wu Guangjian's unique translational style, and points out its positive influence upon the innovation of historical novel in China. The last chapter indicates the limits of Xia Yin Ji as an historical novel text in analyzing its textual structure. |
