In the long river of colorful art,portrait painting has been a very popular theme.The main function of traditional portraiture is to record,but the appearance of camera has completely subverted this main function.Therefore,portraiture in contemporary art has become an important form of expression for many art creators to examine themselves and society.Marlene Dumas,one of the most famous women artists in the world,also has a large number of such portraits in her works.Her painting style with a strong personal color,bold lines,simple and bold color are the embodiment of her creative style.Because of its small growth in South Africa,the growth of childhood environment under the influence of ethnic culture,lead to a large part of the content of the painting to race,and later moved to Amsterdam was greatly inconvenienced by South Africa's identity,the back of the work is full of personal sensitive to political subject,and a large number of into the feminist thoughts.Dumas' s decisive and sharp approach to creation is worth learning from for many artists.This paper analyzes and studies the most characteristic portraits of Dumas.The first part discusses the overall influence of Dumas' s life experience and female identity on his painting style.The second part,through the analysis of his works,analyzes the composition of his portraits,the use of color and the expression of content,especially Dumas' s use of pictures to compose pictures and the collection and reuse of different materials in the process of painting.The third part discusses the influence and inspiration of Marlene Dumas' s portrait works on the author and contemporary Chinese painting.
