Former studies about "number+adjective+classifier" are not numerous, besides they are relatively scattered and have not been summarized as a system yet. Most of them only focused on one side or another of this structure, which caused a gap in "number+adjective+ classifier" study case. This thesis, relying on former studies achievements, chooses the whole structure as aim of study, discusses the particularities of its formation, its semantic and pragmatic sides; meanwhile, it compares the Chinese and Vietnamese similar ways of expressing and forming this structure, hoping that in one hand will be able to improve the systematic study of the Chinese "number+adjective+classifier", in the other hand will help the field of Chinese and Vietnamese comparison. This thesis, apart from the introduction and conclusion, is divided in four main parts. The first part:summary. "Number+adjective+classifier" is formed by the combination of one number, one adjective and one classifier. So this chapter sums up former studies achievements, fully describes "number", "adjective", "classifier" characteristics, particularities and senses, in order to set the basis for the following chapters. The second chapter:"number+adjective+classifier" semantic study. "Number+adjective+classifier" can insist on objects'description, which means the "adjective" points semantically on the following name; in the same time it can also point out the "number" of objects, which infers the "adjective" semantically points out the "classifier". About this, the chapter intends to pursue a detailed description. The third chapter:"number+adjective+classifier" pragmatic study. Because of the long time period and the wide use of this structure, it surely has a unique and irreplaceable pragmatic value. This will be discussed in this chapter from the principle of economy, subjectivity, description and prominence. The last chapter:comparison between modern Chinese "number+adjective+classifier" and modern Vietnamese structure. In modern Chinese numeral-classifier structure, adjective can be inserted in between, forming the "number+adjective+classifier" structure. However in Vietnamese, if numeral clause is used with adjective, the adjective can take two different places:one is after the whole "number+adjective+classifier" structure, the other one is before the name, after the number-classifier. Only "cai" (个) can appear in the middle of numeral clause. This chapter discusses about the particularities of modern Vietnamese numeral clause and adjective combination, Chinese-Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Chinese translations and the middle Vietnamese numeral clause "cai" (个)Nowadays, there were practically no papers on modern Chinese and Vietnamese comparison on numeral clause and "number+adjective+classifier" structure. After reading and summarizing former studies related to this topic, we hope our analysis will help filling this lack of research.
