In this paper, the author take her own experience while working for Confucius Institute at the University of Nottingham in the UK, teach mandarin for a local family of four, as an example. From the perspective of differentiated instruction, analysis the characteristics and principles of mandarin family teaching in a foreign environment. Analyze and summarize the teaching experience of this family differentiated instruction in the way of action research report. Research the influence and effect of emotional factors in differentiated instruction. Present teaching ideas related to "quasi-family" teaching method.This paper argues that:to carry on mandarin family teaching in the foreign environment, must be adapted to the local conditions, and take full account of differences in language learners and the environment, such as age, motivation, cognitive ability and the environment. In order to identify the teaching objectives, select and process the teaching resources,, design and implement the teaching task and teaching evaluation. On a student-centered basis, base on the individual and care groups to carry on differentiated instruction. In the teaching process, emphasis on both speaking and practice, pay attention to the role of non-verbal intelligence. In the combination of teaching and learning, can appreciate the learners' differences, and actively use the differences to improve mandarin family teaching.This paper is divided into five parts:Partâ… :Introduction. This section discuss in detail the mandarin family teaching practice of the author in the UK, including the analysis of learners, how to choose and process the teaching resources, design and implementation of the teaching task and teaching evaluation, in order to assess the effect of this mandarin family teaching. This part base on the teaching experiment, discuss in-depth the positive application of differences in language teaching, and the important role of emotional factors in the differentiated instruction, thus launch ideas about "quasi-family" teaching.Partâ…¤:Conclusion. This part through the summary of this action research report, analysis the innovation and inadequate ideas of this research, place a desire for application of differentiated instruction in the mandarin teaching field.
