With a tortuous development during the modern times, Chinese folk culture finally shifted its role from cultural burden to cultural resources (Fei Xiaotong,2001). Being respected and valued, the concept of "Chinese folk culture" was brought into light. A language can't be separated from the base of culture and exist independently. To learn a second language, it is necessary to understand the second culture. Folk culture that constitutes the culture study and the cultural history of mankind is an important factor of it (Zhong Jingwen,1998).Within the field of teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL), the "Chinese Folk Culture Course" (short for the folk course) is designed as a kind of elective cultural course for students with middle and high Chinese levels, aiming to introduce Chinese folk culture and to develop their intercultural communicative competence. Meanwhile, through an investigation of Chinese folk textbooks currently in use in TSCL, this article focus on two of them, Chinese Folk by ShuYan used by Beijing Language and Culture University and Chinese Folk Overview by Wang Yanjun used by Jinan University.This paper also holds the opinions that as part of TSCL, folk class should be distinguished from the counterpart Chinese Folklore course established by Department of Chinese Language in university and add in large number of multimedia material, such as pictures, music, movies, documentaries, animation and so on, considering from three aspects of Folk object's characteristics, the advantages of multimedia teaching and students'needs. Choosing multimedia materials for Chinese folk teaching, one should follow the principles of representativeness, accuracy and interesting. Also these materials should be properly adjusted according to the teaching goal. Finally, taking into account the culture of teaching should serve the goal of language teaching, we ought to leave some room for language teaching. (The author carried out a questionnaire investigation "Chinese folk" of more than 80 foreign students from 2010 summer short-term Chinese language training class of Fudan University about their interest in learning Chinese folk customs as well as their teaching methods courses choice.)...
