Satire Art expresses the meaning of criticism in a roundabout way to achieve ruthless character behind gentle appearance. It takes a more profound impression to the readers, and helps the readers to think more. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to. This means of artistic expression was displayed in Sima Qian's historical works "Shiji" very outstandingly. The study of satire art in "Shiji" can help us understanding it more comprehensively and deeply. At the same time, we can appreciate more about its idealistic achievement and its artistic achievement. Therefore, we will do some study about the satire art of Shiji in this paper.Except for the preface and epilogue, the paper includes four chapters:Chapter 1 discusses the origin of the satire art of Shiji.It analyses the origin of the satire art of Shiji from the literary respect and the cultural respect. Seeing from the literary respect, the satire art of Shiji continued the satiric tradition of "Chunqiu" "Zuozhuan", the tradition of "Shisao" and the allegory before Qin dynasty, and as a result it becomes to the milestone of using the satire art. Seeing from the cultural respect, the satire art of Shiji related to the Chinese ancient scholars'spirit of criticizing the defect of society closely.Chapter 2 focuses on the subject matter of the satire art of Shiji. The extensive subject matter of the satire art of Shiji,which includes the story of imperators, nobilities and ministers, points on many of the dark sides of the society. And it takes the history of Han dynasty for its main part. Except for that, we also study the reasons of choosing the sarcastic subjects and the characteristic of the sarcastic subject matter.Chapter 3 makes a study of the writing technique of the satire art of Shiji. This part focuses on the tones of satire and the expressing ways of satire. The tones shows in the satire art of Shiji are many and various. I summarize them as jeer, fleer and irony, which are the three kinds of most familiar tones in Shiji. I also summarize the characteristics of the tones. The expressing ways of satire, which are also studied in this chapter, includes depiction, narration, critique and lyricism.Chapter 4 discusses the reception of the satire art of Shiji by the composing of Chinese ancient novels. This chapter discusses the topic from the fore-structures, expressions and re-creations. After that, we can comprehend how the satire art of Shiji have some influence over the composing of Chinese ancient novels.Finally, I explain the paper's function of enhancing the sense of mission and responsibilities of intellectual in the epilogue briefly. It emphasizes this paper's social significance.
