Jonathan Swift (1667~1745)is the prominent English satire master in the18thcentury and he is a great litterateur and thinker. His satire works, especially, hisrepresentative satire novel Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World byLemuel Gulliver has a great satire art value.This paper aims to study Jonathan Swift’s satire writing of the above novel,basing on these three aspects: satire art methods, satire objects and satire estheticmeanings. Finally, it comes to a conclusion as the following: First, the novel’s satiremethods consist of exaggeration、contrast、irony、symbolism、allusion and so on.Second, the satire objects are very clear. The objects contain the frightful politics,evil colonics, human’s evilness, and hypocritical learning. Last, the novel’s satire arthas a great esthetic value which contains linguistic esthetics,narrative esthetics andloftiness esthetics.
