Taken as one of the key point that decides the results of foreign language study, learning motivation has been concerned by numerous foreign language teachers and researchers. Many studies show that the teachers'influence on the motivation of learners plays a significant role in teaching process. Dornyei& Csizer give concrete guidance on how to inspire learners'motivation, and the instructive studies on teachers' influence on learners'motivation almost follow this route.Along with the further development of the research on motivation, the concept of "demotivation" comes out and the researches on it are another way to study motivation. It is justified to accept this view, that, reducing the impact of demotivation on learners is of positive meaning in helping learners to achieve better learning outcome.This paper is consisted of six chapters:The first chapter gives a brief introduction of the research status of demotivation and its necessity in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL).The second chapter discusses the definition of "demotivation" and introduces the present research achievement of it home and abroad.The third chapter, based on the investigation of 148 foreign students of three universities on their demotivation during learning Chinese, shows the existence and distribution of learners' demotivation, as well as the most notable factors of it, which provide the foundation for the following further analysis.The fourth chapter makes detailed analysis with the results of the investigation, and finds the contact between the teachers and the generation of the learners' demotivation.The fifth chapter discusses teachers' feasible work on reducing the degree of learners'demotivation, by making good use of the analysis and results above, as well as the reality of TCSL.The sixth chapter is the conclusion, which gives emphasis on the difference between TCSL and TESL, and affirm the responsibilities and positive effect of teachers on students' demotivation.
