Murakami Literary Studies In China (1989-2009)

The famous Japanese contemporary writer Haruki Murakami has a great influence on international literature relations that cross cultural, cross nation, cross language, and this constitutes the problem framework of comparative literature (and culture) and reception theory. The works of Haruki Murakami have come into Chinese readers′vision for 20 years. This thesis gives a tentative study on presenting a panorama of Murakami Literature research in China. Through the comprehensive collection and analysis of documents and information in our academic circle that is relevant to the study on Murakami literature. First of all, the longitudinal context and the scale of Murakami Literature research in Chinese academia are sorted out in this thesis. Secondly, this thesis presents three features in Chinese academic study on Murakami literature, that is the uncertainty of Murakami literature orientation, the ideological nature of Murakami literature evaluations, and the focus on urban studies of Murakami literature. Meanwhile, the thesis points out the value of Murakami literature study, such as the value on Medio-Translatology, the value on comparative studies and so on. And finally, this thesis points out the deficiencies of Murakami literature study, and concludes that the success of Murakami literature in the world is mainly because of two reasons. On one aspect, Murakami literature integrates foreign culture with national culture, and it is a masterpiece of cultural integration. On the other aspect, Murakami literature describes the most basic human common standards which are universal.With these studies, a more clear outline on Murakami literature research can be drawn in Chinese academic in the last 20 years, and the achievements and problems also become obvious. The understanding of the features in Murakami literature research in China as well as its achievements in the whole world provides some references to Chinese literature study especially the contemporary literature.
