In this paper, we focus the traditional music of Miao minority in Zhongbao, Nandan of Guangxi as the research objective. The author uses the researching method of ethnomusicology to study the social and cultural background, historical origin, present situation and musical modality of the local traditional music. Through the study of the music culture, author analyzes the musical modality of the artistic form, and explains the relationship between music and folk custom in a further way. The article will be divided into four parts:Preface The preface makes a throughout and comprehensive review from Miao music's current study, research method, features and steps, as well as the value of this topic and purpose, finally demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of this paper.PartⅠIt gives a brief introduction of the present situation and cultural background of the Miao minority embodied in the physical geography, establishment, origin and development, language, religious, folk belief, physical culture, marriage and funeral, as well as festivals.PartⅡMiao music has two basic types named traditional music and traditional musical instrument. According to the current relevance of the Miao music, author summarizes its basic property, performances, content, representative works and the adoption customs separately.PartⅢIt analyzes the music modality of Miao music from its musical form, melodic formation, scale of mode, rhythm and metre, finally summarize the features of it.PartⅣIt talks about the cultural comprehensive of Miao music from the perspectives of the substantial connection with local people in Miao minority as well as its custom and religion. From the consideration of the present situation of Miao music, author tries to find out the possible preservation and succession for it.
