Jung's Theory Of Prototypes

Carl Gustav Jung is one of the most important thinkers in 20th century. His theory is not only concerned with our times but has great influence on this centry's thoughts. His angle of view is human being's dark psychology.He used archytype to interpret culture so that he widened a new field for literature study.This paper trys to search the history of archytype,inqure its feature and rich intention. At the same time,the paper trys to pursue its influence on both chinese and foreign literature study. The paper is devided into four parts. Part one searchs the archytype's history and how Jung put forword it.Jung's archytype is very important,it is a great part of the whole theory .Jung was not satisfied with Frued's theory.He decided human's unconciousness into two parts, namely personal unconciousness and collective unconciousness.Human never realize the later but some important behayer comes from it.Jung realized that collective unconciousness could never form actual image derectly,so there must be. a medium between themin fact,archytype is not a new term but a term with long history.Polatu suggested that orm was the final form of all the world. Kant thought that there was a category between human's conception and concrete things. Part two puts emphasis on the features and the rich intentions of archytype.In this paper,we think that its intention is very rich, it is not only has the faction of orm but has the faction of content.Jt is forming, vague,general and perpetual. Part three puts emphasis on the influence of Jung's theory of archytype. It has great influence in all the whole world. Northrop Frye, a canadian critist, learned the sence of history from Jung,considered that we should take critique seriously. He thought that Critique was independent,it dosn't belong to literature .Li Ze-Hou,a Chinese thinker,argued that the structure of human psychology is not a hereditv.it has been forming eventually during human's work in the long history. In the last part,we assess Jung's theory. We consider that this theory at least has three great meaning as the following: First, it is an composite study, including history, psychology, phylosopy, etc. Secondly,it puts forword a whole new view of art essential.Art always convey shuman's mind.thirdly,it explains why art is always vague and why people are intersted in it. Although Jung'theory has so many great meanings, it has two shortcomings, for one hand,it is only a hypothesis, Jung never, and he can not demonstrate it, so it is neither scientific nor reasoning; for the other hand,it compe]etly neglects subjects,facing archytype,personal is incompetent and in a weak position.
