Dostoevsky is a Russian writer deeply influenced by his native Eastern Orthodox Church. Attempts to get any incontestable religious conclusion from his works will get only vain, however. He contemplates corresponding anti-proposition to almost every proposition raised. A Dostoevsky explorer will find himself in an abstruse inner world very soon. For those who still keep researching, the only one thing can be done is to hit the vital point from one special angle, here comes the inevitable contradiction: the angle is of prior one-sidedness. This is a dilemma, but also a treasure from Dostoevsky抯 揺nigma of enigma? This thesis, divided into three parts, will focus on the positive proposition existing in Dostoevsky抯 profound ideology, which is, the creation of Christic Figures. Christic Figures are a series of positive characters who have something virtuous in common, that is, they are pure in mind, endurable with torments, ready to self-sacrifice, tenderhearted to others. The specific images are as follows, Javshkin (Poor Folk), Arey (The House of The Dead), Vanya,, Natasha(The Insulted & The 4 Injured), Sonya (Crime & Punishment), Myshkin (The Idiot), Alyosha, Elder Zossima (The Brothers Karamazov) etc. Part one discusses the reasons the writer portrays all these positive figures. Perfect personality model is needed to attain this goal. Christ, just as such a model, can hold all people together. The figures in Dostoevsky抯 conception, of whom Jesus Christ is a prototype, perfonn the role of noble humane examples. And at the same time, ideal man (woman) born from the writer抯 imperfect nature, is actually his superego. Fictional Christic Figures are based mainly on Dostoevsky抯 personal experience, secondly, on literary tradition. Part two deals with the types and characteristics of Christie Figures. These figures bear some same virtues, but as to their types, we can see a variety made up of children, mass, holy Christians, young women. The charming children in Dostoevsky抯 novels possess a simple, vulnerable, and innocent nature which highlights the contrasting, cruel adult society. Mass, the greatest Christ, 5 forming the foundation of the nation, is hope of salvation. Holy Christians are direct mortal Christ. They own the most effective weapon love to conquer the world. As to the images of women, we can find two prototypes in Bible, one is the Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ; the other is Mary Magdalene, the celebrated reformed prostitute who devotes her life to Christ. Part three talks about the significance of Christie Figures. These images remind people of discarding devilish selves, overcoming split personalities, seeking new life. They are sensitive poetic things, resisting the banality of materialism, inspiring people to real...
