| Gadamer is one of the greatest thinkers in 20th century. His philosophicalHermeneutics opened a new field for modern philosophy and aesthetics. This the-sis gives a discussion of Gadamer's most important concept - the fusion of hori-zons - from three aspects.1. The fusion of horizons has the original characteristic, for it stems fromthe present of beings. It contains the seeing, the hearing and the saying in. the o-riginal sense. That is to say, the various factors whose characters are differentexist harmoniously. We can arrive at the truth of being if probe into the fusion ofhorizons. The truth of being present itself in dialogue, question - and - answer.Dialogue means fusing and going into the world. At the same time, Gadamer be-lieves truth and untruth both are the states of being. They are changeable, con-stituting the fusion of horizons together.2. The fusion of horizons is a method of chance, of probability and by cir-cumstances. The method is circle which consists by identity and difference. Thedifference is "Yuan" which means the edge, the probability and origin. It goes tothe truth of being and makes the truth fuse with the method. The fusion of hori-zons is the relation of man with the world showing on the accidental circum-stance.3. Play theory is the intermediary from being theory to practice theory. Dif-ferent to the traditional concept, play is the aim of itself. It is the mode of beingnot only of art but also of human being. Practice is the purpose of the fusion ofhorizons. It consists theory and its application. The essence of practice is the lifeof human being. |
