The translation theories in the light of philosophical hermeneutics break through the limits of traditional translation theories and provide translatology with a new perspective.Hermeneutics does not provide methodological guidance to the act of translating,or translation practice. However, this approach gives philosophical insights into translation studies, particularly to the two processes of understanding and interpretation which are inevitable in every translating activity. This proposal is followed by an exploration of the translation process-fusion of horizons,a dynamic process in translation,to show the openness of text's meaning. This is the departure and foundation of this thesis. The thesis attempts to discuss the process of translation and analyze the translations of Tao Qian's poems under the guidance of the theory of fusion of horizons. Structurally,it consists three chapters.Chapter 1 offers a general introduction to hermeneutics and one branch of hermeneutics represented by Gadamer.Chapter 2 includes the studies on one notion of Gadamer's hermeneutics-Fusion of Horizons and its relations with translation studies. To be specifically, this part will show in detail the translation process-the first fusion between the translator's horizon and the SL text's horizon;the second fusion between the TL text's horizon and the first fused horizon, which has shown us a detailed description of the dynamic process in translation.Chapter 3 is the analysis of the translations of the selected poems of Tao Qian.Firstly, some introduction will be given to the great poet Tao Qian and the selected poems. Then comes to the example analysis from three perspectives:they are the translator's understanding, the TL text's interpretation and the TL reader's request.
