The Relationship Between Western Science And Religion - Around The Person's Problems Are Discussed

This is the age full of crisis. It must be acknowledged that society is developing in a surpris-ing speed with many dangerous phenomena. The problem of human, loss of home and confusion ofvalue world for example, has been noticing gradually. What on earth science and religion bringabout is concerned in this paper.The paper is composed of five parts.The first part outlines the present situation of the problem of relation between science and reli-gion. Two modes exist, one is the mode of origination, the other is epistemological. The formerdiscusses the contribution of religion to the origination and development of science. The later com-pares difference and similarity between science and religion as system of cognition.The second begins with the problem of human. A pair of notion can express it, which is prob-lem of fact and problem of value. We can summarize the way to resolve this problem. Naturalism,coming from the characteristic of science, is the way that human is regarded as body. It neglectsthe value and significance of human. Value is the embodiment of definitivity. In this paper,definitivity is a key notion used to express the pursuit of their solidity. We can find the source ofproblem. Also, We can question the same problem from religion. There are two different ways togo after definitivity. But how do science and religion influence the problem of human?The third concerns influence of modernity. In this part, science and religion respectively hasthe way to solve the problem of human. The former depends on rationality, the later on divinity.Anyway, they both believe they can solve the problem eventually. But the fact is the loss of worldof significance, the disappearance of human.To liberate human, post - modernity scholars criticize all notions from modernity, particularlyfrom science. In their views, problem why we have lost ourselves can attribute to science and reli-gion. So they analyze both and then eliminate the wrong factors in them, mechanical world anddisenchantment of nature, the divinity full of manly taste. After this they insist on by new religion,all problems can be solved. Religion is the key to solve the problem and could escape from the cri-sis of modernity, which is the major content in this part.In last part, enlightenment obtained from western thinkers is introduced. We are now con-fronted with the same problem as can be solved only by resorting to our history and culture ratherthan western culture- religion. For according to the points of the West, human is the religious be-ing, but in China it is not.
