As a phylosopher in the transforming society,Xunzi puts his own theory both on the man and of the aesthetics ,which derives from his 揺vil-nature?theory. This thesis is mainly devided into three parts the first part is on the theory of the mankind ,the second on his aesthetics ,and the third the remark on his theory. Anslysing his theory on the relation between the man and the world before expounding his theory of the man can not only locate the philosophical source that lies behind his theory on the separation of the man ?made from the nature , but also give a clear understanding of congressiveness of his knowledge about the mankind 憇 subjectiveness The world of Xunzi involves two meanings the natural world and the man 梞ade society. The relation between man and the world can, correspondingly ,be separated into two parts :the separation of the man-made from the nature on the natural world and , the harmony between the nature and the man-made on the man-made society. His so-called 搈astering and taking advantage of the world?theory is, in fact ,to profit from and to reform the nature of on the basis of morality. At first, the author analyses Xunzi抯 theory on the separation of the man 梞ade world from the nature which considers the man抯 nature as evil while the man-made social feature as good (mercy). Therefore ,it is necessary that the nature be moulded and the goodwill be cultived. Xunzi approval of the mankind nature not only provides and the actual basis for the emergence of the ethics, but also takes on a tendency to value the natural desire, which is something that his predecessors did not consider. His theory of the harmony between the man-made and nature can only be.realized in the ideal world, but not in the reality. In a world, the 揺vil 梟ature?theory is the basis of his through of the man 梞ade and the morals. According to his theory on the man, his aesthetics can also be divided into two parts: the natural feature and the man 梞ade social feature. 揘o nature, no 3 object; no man 梞ade, no beauty? which means that one part can not make up beauty without the other .On the part of nature , Xunzi holds strongly that the responses to and the creation of beauty-and-happiness rest with the nature of the mankind and they are the instinctive desire of the mankind . He holds that the desire should be satisfied in some degree. Xunzi is the first man who thinks that art and beauty possess some emotional elements. On the point of man-made, Xiunzi studies aesthetics from the viewpoint of building new social order. He argues that the society and the man 梞ade should both be united through moral practising. On the social aspect, the ideal of 揾armony of moral and aesthetic?can be realised by moral controlling emotion and musical channeling seneation ; on the individual aspect, one can become a sage by studying Li and performing Li .The combination of these two aspects is Xunzi抯 ideal ,but in real life, these two aspects can hardly become harmonious. His theory on 搕he harmony between the nature and the man- made?takes on respecting human nature under the banner of respecting the morals, which also surpasses the theory of the predecessors. Xunzi抯 consideration of man抯 nature as evil is mainly influenced by the thoughts of Lao-Zhuang and Confucius-Mencius. The 揺vil-nature?theory, however, has a large background, which is the theoretical traditions formed by many pr...
