Discussion On Han Fei's " Works Not By Works De " Enlightenment Thought

Hanfei is a political theorist, thinker and synthesizer of various legalists throughout the last stage of the Warring State. His works, which consist of 55 articles, are main material to research his ideology. This paper deals with TofELE (Hanfei抯 theory of education in law rather than that in ethics).Part one gives a brief introduction to TofELE and concludes that TotELE attaches importance not only to education in law, but also to education in ethics.Part two is about the theoretical foundation of TofELE. Hanfei抯 theory of human nature and view of history are discussed here. These provide a powerful theoretical support for ToIELE.Part three is about the goal of TofELE. In this part, two problems are haggled. Firstly, ideal objective of personality is that who understand the importance of rule by law and the methods of governing; Secondly, the characteristics of ideal goal ofppersonality are as follows: public purpose, perceiving ability, fair-minded character,9innovation spirit and practicing style.Part four analyzes the educational contents of TofELE. One of the contents is education in law that teaches people to learn and obey law, the other is education in ethics that inculcates persons to devote to public service and to ignore general interest.Part five introduces five methods and means to implement TofELE: Regard officials as teachers; Combine punishment and intimidation with sincerity and affection; Foresee and hold how things will develop; Take practice and actual effect seriously; Obtain support from the masses.
