The thesis consists of eight parts in which the languages and the concepts of modern sculpturedesign are studied and analyzed. First of all, the connotations and characteristics of typical modernsculptures are reviewed and explained while the design methods and characteristics of therepresentative sculptors are studied. At the beginning of the last cefltury, the traditional sculptural space mode became cliche whenthe other forms of at came up one by one. Then the brand-new visual system and visual-expressingmode took it over. Consequently, the "block system" of the traditional simulation of the object'soriginal size was discarded and the new pattern of multi-level and multi-position was created, and themodern sculpture became diversified----there are various expressing ways.It is to lead us to pay attention to the rational and scientific design thoughts, then to improve thesituation that we depend much upon traditional sculptural space modes and traditional modelingmethods in our present work that the thesis emphasizes the design concepts and methods of modernsculpture. Also, it is hoped this research may be instructive and helpful to the further search for ourfeasible, more scientific modern design theory.
