Between Traditional Source And Modern Character

Because of the emphasis to the literary independence and the individual freedom expression, Zhou Zuoren's literary thought is regarded as one of elites who have truly " modern " character literary thought in the Chinese modern history of literature. But his literary thought of "modern" character mostly ascribed to the "true" understanding and the acceptance of the foreign literary artistic thought. Needless to say, Zhou Zuoien has negiected the traditional resources as a mean of constructing his literary artistic thought, especially in the beginning of constructing his idea. It has displayed the quite soie appearance to his understanding of literary and artistic thought. This article gazes in the Zhou Zuoren literary artistic thought before the May 4^th Movement. Multi-analysis will be concerned to the Chinese traditional resources accepted in his early time and the concrete influence on his "modern " literary thought.From Zhou Zuoren's early reading and creation, his literary thought has displayed the obvious displacement to the Confucian literary thought. Reading the Confucian classic was inferior to the unofficial historic literary sketches, tasting the poem to be nearer "expressing feeling" but is not near "articulating will". Thus it has opened a leaf of literary thought trend.
