On Kang Youwei Scientific Thought

The Reform Movement of 1898 was a boundary tablet of modem history of science and technology which inherited the past and ushered in the future. Kang Youwei, as a leader, his scientific thoughts opened up the way of Chinese en- lighteniny campaign and pushed the development of Chinese modem science and had an important position in modem history of scientific thoughts. The disserta- tion analyses the source, establishment and content of kang Youwei?s scientific thoughts as well as it?s guiding action on The Reform Movement of 1898. First, it analyses the main source of Kang Youwei?s scientific thoughts and the coures from tranditional science to modern science. On one hand, he inherit- ed and developed the Chinese traditional scientific thoughts. On the other hand, He deeply studied the Western natural science and social science since the West- ernization Movement introduced the technological activities. The works written on 1886 was a sign of traditional science to modern science While travelling Eu- rope and America, he assimilated a lot of western scientific knowledge as early as the beginning of the Twentieth Century which eventually constructed his modern scientific thoughts, When he was old ,His scientific thoughts was more and more drowned in by protecting Emperor and safeguarding Confucianism as well as the political whirlpool on pitted against revolutionary. Second, it probes into the action of Kang Youwei?s scientific thoughts to the Reform Movement of 1898. By a series of activities such as abolishing imperial examinations, founding learned society and awarding inventions or creations , it opened up a new explortion on technical organization. The theory of 揟hree world?historical evolution made his reform thoughts to a new hight. The science was inheritance to his spirit of au- thetic proof and his objection to superstition or authority. In short, Kang Youwei? s scientific thoughts was a forerunner of Chinese ideological circles and cultural circles advancing towards modernization.
