The subject of human nature remains a forever topic with long history in thedevelopment of man抯 thinking. In Chinese culture history, once come down to class, itdenied that there is some common aspect besides class. By making theoreticargumentation, the literacy theory in modem time broke through such scope and therecame out all types of literature successively such as 搕he scar literature? 搕he reformliterature? 搕he calm-thinking culture?and so on. Among all those, Wang Anyi was afamous writer with great individuality who advocated human nature. The paper, bystudying diff6rent themes of her works, is trying to explain how Wang Anyi, as anovelist, studied human nature through observing the daily life. The paper is focused on the opinion put forward by Wang Anyi that a novel抯 valuelies in exploring man抯 spirit. The prologue shows that the opinion of man抯 spiritreveals Wang Anyi抯 study direction to the exploring of human nature. The so-called搈an抯 spirit? originated froifi but exceeding the daily life, is composed of the potentialparticularity which is behind the everyday life. Wang Myi抯 works are just theexperiments in exploring the man抯 spirit. She tried to study deeply the human nature byanatomy the relations between people and people and the whole world. But, the worldhere, means the materials that come from the real life and composed of man抯 soulinstead of the real life itself. Then there come Wang Anyi抯 four proposals: don抰 makespecial environment and special features, don抰 provide too many materials, don抰stylize the language, and don抰 be unique. The text is divided into six parts according to different types of works in time order.Wang Anyi firstly paid much attention to the bemusement of a special group: the youth. At that time the Cultural Revolution had just come to its end. After that, Wang Anyi wastrying to grasp the essence of life by describing a fictitious village, and started theresearch on the origin of life, which showed the contradiction between human natureand culture. She insisted that there is something in human nature that last forever,~nong which sexual life is a topic that cannot be ignored by a serious writer just like her.In her love stories, she displayed the reaction of human nature to the society and calledfor the respect to sexual life. In those on family stories, she established a mental worldwith materials in the real world so as to research into the relations between man andtime, space and all the thing around, showed man抯 irremissible loneliness and man抯thinking and will when faced by human nature. In her novels on cities she made a further research on hump~ nature. Those worksShanghai as their background city, all showed the social characters of the city bydescribing the development of human nature, and took it as a method of observingsocial factors. In the middle and late 1990抯, she turned suddenly to themes on countrylife so as to make research of human nature under the country environment.Similarly, the six parts fall into two categories. On one hand, Wang Anyi describedthe real life. In her works she depicted the basic components of the society such asWeiwei, a feature of the average people, and tried to find the variety of their life behindtheir simple looking.Furthermore, on the relationship between man and society, she thought man抯vitality is much more strong and is the drive of the social development. On the otherhand, Wang Anyi tried to study deeply the human nature in story. she emphasized onexploring the humanity not only about the origin of the nation, but also theidentification of family history.Of course, Wang Anyi抯 works are not perfect. In the end of the paper, I抎 like topoint out one mistake in her works. It抯 difficult to deal with perfectly at the same timethat described the real life in detail and explored the human nature deeply.
