The United Front of the Chinese Communist Party is one of the three magic weapons that lead to the success of Chinese revolution. In the New Democratic Revolution era, the Chinese Communist Party carried out the United Front policy towards many local powers in KMT, and had a good effect. The most successful case was towards Zhang Xueliang. It resulted in the Xi'an Incident, which turned a new page of Chinese history. To study the relations between Zhang Xueliang and Chinese Communist Party during the Xi'an Incident period can help us objectively evaluate the important events and historic persons of that period, help us learn from the historical experiences and lessons, and give insight to peaceful unification case of our country. The relationship of Zhang Xueliang and Chinese Communist Party was discussed in three chapters that represented three periods of developments of their relationship. The three periods are before Xi'an Incident, during Xi'an Incident, and during Northwest aftermath. During these three periods, the relationship is summarized in from anti-Communist to exterminating Communist, uniting with Communist, and maintaining a lukewarm relationship. The result of changing, developing of the relationship of Zhang Xueliang and Chinese Communist Party has terminated the civil war for ten years, promoted co-operation between Chinese Communist Party and KMT for the second time, laid the basis of thorough victory over anti-Japan and exerted a tremendous influence on Chinese political situation at that time.
