In 1944 22th July and August 7th, U.S. Army Observer Group(USAOG) -- "Dixie Mission" set foot on Yanan respectively ,which marked the beginning of the CPC and American cooperation , or which was regarded as the first official contact or as semi-official properties of contacts between the United States government and CPC. According to the following four sides: the efforts of CPC, American diplomats'positive suggestions, the telegrams between Roosevelt and Chiang Kai-shek, and Wallace paying a visit to Yanna, We are able to succeed in finding out the reasons why USAOG formed and eventually dispatched to Yanna for a series of visits and the other activities. What both sides needed in the military and political field finally achieved their aim that the USAOG paid a visit to the places where CPC occupied. While establishing a series of diplomatic policy, CPC drew great attention to the arrival of USAOG, where they launched a series of activities, such as visiting bases ,making speeches with CPC, rescuing Allied pilots , establishing observatory, collecting intelligence information, then writing investigation reports, etc. All that USAOG did in Yanan made it possible for both sides to establish a preliminary military cooperation relationship. After having a realistic understanding of CPC, affirming Chinese communist troops fighting potential and making an objective evaluation on it, USAOG suggested that the U.S. government provide CPC with military support instead of only supporting the Chiang kai-shek government. However, this military cooperation with the United States was not regarded as a political cooperation. With the contradiction upgrading with Stilwell and Chiang kai-shek and USAOG status in asharp decline in Yanan, the foreign policy of America to CPC increasingly turned to the Chiang kai-shek government, in addition, some members of USAOG, who kept on good terms with CPC, were recalled. After that, CPC's attitude towards the USAOG changed completely at that time--from being positive attitude into a limit to the cooperation, where their cooperation produced a turn. In order to deal with Hurley giving the solutions to the Chinese internal problems from national government standpoint with the United States ,CPC began changing the way of communicating with the U.S. by bypassing Hurley and the Chiang kai-shek government they supported, and established a direct link with the U.S. with the help of other friendly Americans. With the development of international situation and CPC's strategic position drop in the war, plus differences in ideology between both sides, USAOG eventually left Yanan, which meant the partnership of the United States with the CPC came to an end. USAOG eventually left Yanan , ending up its mission in China ,what's worse ,Some members of USAOG were doomed to be caught in bad luck. Considering the political affairs after the war, the United States changed the foreign policy to China, which meant cooperation relations with CPC ended.
