Literature is the reflection of real life and the revelation of the artistic pulse of periods. The novelists of Macau used the unique lives of young people in a small city as a source for a series of works that reflect the social aspects of Macau before and after its reversion to China. They show how young people search for beautiful and successful lives despite defeat and trouble. The stories narrate how they search for the rainbow in their lives. This thesis explores the novels about Macau's young people by Lou Mau, Lam Chung-Ying, and Chik Yin. It attempts to examine their works' development, aesthetic appreciation, artistic aspirations, and status and limits in the literature of Macau. It also tries to give a theoretical framework, artistic analysis, and systematic evaluation. It puts the works in a general perspective and shows their value of existence. |
