Lin Yu-tang is a writer who enjoys high fame as well as a thinker who deeply understands the universal value in both eastern and western culture. He is well known as a great writer in the academic circle but his value as a great thinker has long been neglected. In his book from a pagan to a Christian, he described himself as a humanist whose religion was humanism in the past thirty years. It is of great significance to study his humanist thoughts if we want to get a more specific idea of the humanist thoughts in 20century in China and to find the link point between eastern and western value system. This is also of great important in our effort to build the new culture of 21 century.This thesis studies Ling Yu-tang's thoughts from humanist's angle on a wide range of raw materials and mainly deals with the contents of his humanist thoughts and how it is like. In the thesis, an effort was also made to find a place for Ling Yu-tang in the history of modern Chinese thoughts.
