"modern Chinese Dictionary" Er Word Study

"r-coloring" is one of the phonetic changes, and it exists in Mandarin Chinese widespreadly. The standardization of the "r-coloring" is also one of the most important contents of modern Chinese. While in these years, there is much confusion in judging and using "r-coloring", and we still haven't found a persuasiveness standard in comprehending and mastering "r-coloring" words.In this paper we will analyze and examine the "r-coloring" words, included in << Modern Chinese Dictionary >> . We will classify the "r-coloring" words by their quantities of syllables, then we can get the main "r-coloring" words, include the monosyllable words and polysyllabic words that should color 'r'. Many polysyllabic words are expanded from the monosyllable words. And we can conclude some regular patterns according to different positions of the "r-coloring" words. The phenomenon of "r-coloring" exists in the monosyllable words and the disyllabic words mostly. On the basis of these words, we can analogize many other polysyllabic words, which can color 'r'. Excepting these words, there are many "r-coloring" words, owing to the grammar structure, which couldn't be analogized from the main "r-coloring" words, "r-coloring" is not only a means to form a word ,but also a phenomenon of pragmatics which is influenced by the factors of such as society culture and the ideas of people. Some phenomenon which looks like an exception indeed has its reasons from society. We hope the sorts and the regular patterns be a basis for the teachers and the learners of the Mandarin Chinese.
