During the period of the Qing dynasty ofKangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, stern prohibition religion policy was carried out to Catholicism by the government in order that Catholicism in china suffered from great attack and even got in danger of declining. Though such policy was in force, Catholicism still developed continuously in Guangdong and the activities of the missionary and religionist were still relatively active.The article focuses on the Catholicism in Guangdong and discusses its process of development, preservation and declining during the such period of over seventy years. The author tries to reveal the special role played by Guangdong province, such as the sanctuary of the missionary, the forward position of preachment and the backward basement and command post, through exploring the characteristics of activities of the Catholicism in Guangdong and prohibition policies established by the local government from catholic literature, file material and local historical data.
