As two different formations of novel in New China's literature circles, the Novel on Revolution History and the New History Novel both reflect the spirit of their own age . This essay is a contrast study on these two formations, the theme of which is the history of Republic of China. The study is centered on the alteration in the series of figures and conducted in three aspects to compare them. The three aspects are as follows: sense and action; value-seeking and character-making; the flesh and sex. It points out that as time goes by, the figures' action changes from meaningful to meaningless , value trend from collective to private, attitude towards the flesh from deifying to blaspheming and that for different purposes these narrators adopt different narrative tactics. It finally of works and the spirit of times. Besides, the figures have become the reflection of the spirit of the time.
