Turn The Time. Chinese Conversation Analysis

This thesis aims at elaborating on the law of time interval between turns in Chinese conversation. Basing on lots of experiment data and combining the description of time interval in a turn with literary language, it summarizes the law of time interval in Chinese conversation and the factors that influence time interval.This thesis consists of the following six parts:I .Studying the meaning of time interval in a turn as a problem. This thesis carries on the meaning of study from two levels-the theory level and the applied level-study time interval between turns in conversation.II .changing the pattern of a turn. The thesis divides the turn change into normal and abnormal patterns. The abnormal turn is the main pattern in a turn change and it includes a fast change and a slow change.III .Description of time interval in a turn with literary language. Here we use psychological time and physical time. The description of time interval in a turn with literary language is mainly expressed in psychological time, t also analyses the description of time interval with literary language from two aspects: the normal change and abnormal change in turn.IV.Physical time interval in change a turn. Test the classical dialogues of six movies by using computer phonetic analysis software, then classify and count the tested data, we get average time length of normal and abnormal change.V.The factors that influence time interval in a turn. The thesis inquires into the factors that influence time interval from eight aspects: cultural background, psychological emotion, learning and experience, environment, physiology, topic of conversation, identity and vocabulary.VI.Concluding remarks. We discuss the ideal time interval parameter of a normal change in a turn and analyses the pragmatic function when time interval of a turn deviates the parameter.
