The study on the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution had been ignored for years under the ground that the Literature in the Cultural Revolution was thought of being blank in those days. However, quite a few researchers have set foot in the study and achieved splendid results for recent years. Striding on the previous study basis and searching for a great deal of data, I'm trying my best to study the New Poetry in the Cultrual revolution on wider horison and in more scientific arrangements. Modernity is an inherent pursuit of the New Chinese Poetry. After exploring the two public and unpublic existence states and surveying it in the progress of the New Chinese Poetry, I hold that the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution is also an important link during the modernity pursuit of the New Chinese Poetry. The study on the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution is (or will be) changing the knowledgement foundation of the history of the New Chinese Poetry, and morever may relate or explain afresh the history of the New Chinese Poetry especially the development of the Contemporary Poetry, even the history of the 20th century Chinese Literature. I hope to offer some useful references about that.The introduction defines the subject proposition and discloses its implication and value. The text comprises four chapters. Chapter1 relates and evaluates the study procession on the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution in which I point out achievements and inadequacys in the study and reveal some new learning possibilities in order to make my object and thinking ways clear. Chapter2 explores the two public and unpublic existence states so that take general and historic grasp of the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution. Chapter3 defines the concept of the modernity, probes into the literature modernity from different angles and discusses the rationality and significance of which use modernity as approach to studying the 20th century Chinese Literature especially the Contemporary Literature and stilll more goes further into the modernity implication of the New Chinese Poetry from five aspects. Chapter4 introduces the modernity question of the 20th century Chinese Literature into the study on the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution, and in the meantime analyses it by concrete reading and explanation of poems in order to try to prove that the Public Poetry in the Cultural Revolution indicate interruption of the modernity pursuit of the New Chinese Poetry but no simple interruption,while the Unpublic Poetry in the Cultural Revolution restore the modernity pursuit of the New Chinese Poetry because of the return to poetry subjectivity. The conclusion stresses and generalizes the significance of the New Poetry in the Cultural Revolution.
