Xunzi "music Theory" Aesthetic Ideology

The theory about yue has important role of aesthetic history of pre-Qin ;on the other hand, as a thinker, Xunzi is a contentious person in history. Aesthetic ideas of Xunzi's yuelun are the overlaping parts of theories about yue and Xunzi's aesthetic ideas. As far as outer thought environment is concerned, there is the relationship between yuelun and the Confucius' and Mencius' theories about yue ,the relationship between Xunzi's yuelun and Mozi'sfeiyue, the relationship between aesthetic ideas of Xunzi's yuelun and Xunzi's aesthetic ideas, the relationship between yueji and yuelun . As far as yuelun itself is concerned, there is the relationship between the noumenon of yue and the function of yue , the relationship between yue and li ,the reltionship between yue and zhonghe, so the aesthetic ideas of yuelun is the network interweaved of aforementioned manifold factors. Scholars always focus on yueji and still not fully study yuelun. Based on aforementioned factors, this thesis regards that the study focusing on Xunzi's yuelun has important meanings.This thesis tries to expound the aesthetic ideas of Xunzi's yuelun. In addition to exordium, this thesis mainly includes five parts:Part one: It shows that the producing of yuelun is the special requirement of the times.yuelun inherits the tradition of theories of yue. Yuelun criticizes and inherits ideas of scholars of pre-Qin, mainly inheriting the practice rationalism of Confucius and criticizing the Mozi's theory about yue.Part two: This thesis holds that the thought of relationship of nature and human, the theory of human nature, the theory of society and the theory of knowledge are the basis of the aesthetic ideas of Xunzi's yuelun.Part three: Yue comes from qing , yue expresses qing , yue embodies qing and because of these yue realizes its education function .Yue educates nobles and the populace. So that yue could be regarded as the expression of politics and means to realize xianwang's too .Deeply, the education of yue is to integrate the culture .Part four : Li has its own connotation, Yue and li embody dalectical relationship .Narrowly speaking, yue is a part of li .Broadly speaking , yue is the ideal of life and universe, li is the means of yue.Part five: Xunzi was the thinker who holded the tao of zhonghe .Yuelun embodies the tao of zhonghe .Zhonghe issues specific athestic conantion.In brief, Part one could be regarded as outer study . Part two is inner study focusing Xunzi's aesthetic ideas. Part three studies yue from the angle of ontology and function. Part four is the parallel research of yuelun. The later three parts expound relationship between yue and qing , relationship between yue and li ,relationship between yue and zhonghe. So that ,we study aesthetic ideas of Xunzi's yuelun from various angles.
