Investigation Of Liu Zongzhou's “Zhonghe” Theory

The Zhonghe theory of Liu Zongzhou was developed on the basis of criticizing and inheriting predecessors' thoughts, and one of the significant characteristics is the model of “identify” which used in this theory. The problem of Zhonghe have been produced for a long time, there are two directions of development including “Lixue” and “Xinxue”, for the purposes of Liu's Zhonghe theory, it was formed with special background and specific academic origin. In terms of the contents, the discussion involves two aspects both in ontology and practice.At the level of ontology, Liu introduced “Yi”, “Jue”, “Si”, “Nian”, “Du” and so on,and disscuss the non-germination and germination theory on two aspects of Xingti and Xinti and Liu put forward his theory of “non-germination is germination”. Generally speaking from the aspect of the Xingti, the “non-germination” and “germination” go through a single body, when four feeling of joys, anger, sorrows and happy don't show outside, single body exist in the heart with its natural state. However when it show outside, single body presents the life ontology, here Duti is the highest ontology in the universe;from the aspect of Xinti, “Yi” is the ontology of supreme goodness, and it's a fundamental which go through the non-germination and germination that belong to“Zhongqi” in man's heart. Based on the analysis of Liu's theory in this paper, we summarized that the relationship between “Zhong” and “He” is mutual, they are circulated by “Zhongqi”, the non-germination and germination of four feelings are only its two different appearance which include apparent and hidden. Although non-germination is not be perceived, it include germination in fact, the content represented in germination is non-germination.At the level of practice, Liu implement “Shendu” thought into “Zhonghe theory”, he criticized Cheng and Zhu's thoughts and treated in digestion and absorption meanwhile,thereby put forward the practice theory which claimed that “the purpose of non-germination and germination are the same”. And then completed the academic system of “non-germination is germination”. Compared with other philosopher's practice theory, Liu's theory also showed the characteristics of identity, and the integration of“Chenyi theory” and “Shendu theory” make Liu's practice theory more mature, which avoiding the conflicts between “Practice non-germination” and “Practice germination”.To some extent, it determined his important position in Song and Ming periods.On the whole, the aim of Liu's Zhonghe theory is to criticize and correct the abuseof Wang's theory. With the development of history, his academic thoughts have great practical significance to the contemporary society, the Shendu theory teaches people the importance of personal self-cultivation to realize their own value of life; The Chenyi theory proposes to make the subject more attention than the moral and spiritual consciousness on their own moral, this is of great significance to the steady development of harmonious society for real. Although the theory has some flaws and shortcomings,still do not affect its theoretical significance and value.
