The main reason that present people are still fond of Hawthorne's works is because of his modernity. On the one hand, the intonation of his works shows evident aesthetic modernity, which is the modernity of anti-modernity. Not only does he shows people's alienation and solitude from the angle of reality, and criticizes human nature's lose from the angle of culture, but also directs us a way to obtain cultural homeland. On the other hand, combined with the content of his text Hawthorne has always been using the expressing forms of modernity, whose special characteristic is his internal narrating angle. He pays great attention to the reality of people's hearts with romantic irony, not only from the surface, the description of their psychological activities, but also from the deep, the description of their unconsciousness and subconsciousness. Even allegories in his novels also include psychological factors. Modern writers inherit and improve all these skills and make them the main expressive forms of modern novels.
