Few scholars have thoroughly and systematically studied all adverbs in the inscriptions on ancient bronze objects during the Western and Eastern Zhou Dynasties. So By a thorough investigation and research, the thesis studies the adverbs in the inscriptions on ancient bronze objects of the Western and Eastern Zhou Dynasties, and confirmed seventy-seven adverbs, which has been contacted the inscriptions on bones and the pre-Qin literatures. And according to their modifying and restraining functions and the distribution characteristic, these adverbs can be classified into seven groups, namely, negative adverbs, modal adverbs, manner adverbs, scope adverbs, temporal adverbs, humble and respectful adverbs. Then according to the groups it describes the sense and the function of every adverb in detail. On the base of these, it analyses their source and syntactic functions, semantic orientation, and general features.
