Based on the relevant theories of the cognitive psychology and the teaching practice of the writer, this paper has focused on the discussion of the cognition characters and the acquisition process of the foreign students when they are learning Chinese words. Through such discussion, the knowledge of cognitive psychology is learned and the deep thought of its application on lexical teaching for the Chinese teachers will be offered and obtained.This paper includes five chapters. The first chaper gives a general introduction of the development, basic concepts, researching fields and influence of cognitive psychology and some basic knolowdge of the cognitive code teaching method. The second chapter presents the significance of the Theory of Second Language Acquisition during the whole course of the studying and teaching. Also from the students' view, this chapter analyses how students understand, remember and accumulate words in the light of the relevant theories of the information processing and storing. The third chapter discusses the cognitive characteristics of Chinese vocabulary. The fourth chapter introduces three different models -- the network model, the speeding activation model and the prototype model - from the prospective of semantic processing and through the establish of those models, teachers and students will have an earlier access to the understanding and remembering of Chinese words. The last chapter presents several practical Chinese vocabulary teaching methods and strategies according the above discussion and analysis.
