Liang Zong Dai was an important figure in the history of Chinese contemporary literature, as a poet, critic, translator and theorist. His literary talent, together with the fame for his poetry, was well renowned in the early part of his professional life. Yet, for various reasons, the fame of his works dwindled down and faded out of the poetry arena. Nevertheless, far from the central spot of attention, still shone the time-tested distillation of his works, from which, as yet, emanated its enchanting fascination.Poetry was Liang Zong Dai's life-long affection. His theories onpoetry, and the critique that was derived from the theories, with a view tothe development of China's contemporary poesy, represented aconsummate achievement of China's poetry world in 1930's--assimilating the prime of western symbolism, intertwining it withthe finest part of Chinese traditional literature, and thus establishing the pure poetry theories with "symbolism" at the core. The thesis uses pure poetry as the starting point and revolves, against different cultural backgrounds, around poetry itself, it's format, inditing, critique, etc., analysing and discussing Liang Zong Dai's exploration in poetics, which is of unique characteristics.
