Paul Valery is a famous poet and critic in France in twentieth Century, His poetictheory inherited and developed the literary tradition of French symbolism, His theory of" pure poetry" has not only a great influence on the creation of French poetry, but alsoplayed a far-reaching significance for the development of world poetry, in particular,played a lead of an important role in the development of Chinese poetry.As a poet, Valery created The Young Goddess of Destiny and Beach Cemetery andmore than100full of beautiful and metaphysical poems. As a critic, Valery had widerange of interests, involved in many fields such as literature, philosophy, aesthetics,music, art and mathematics, and he published An Essay on Poem and Poetry andAbstract Thinking and other important papers to put forward constructive thoughts andform a relatively systematic Poetics. What’s noticeable is that Valery put forward a setof broad and fine poetic theory basing on poetry theory of Allan Poe, Baudelaire andMallarme and from the rich experience of poetry writing and poetic criticism. Valery’seternal pursuit and pure poetry ideal is a beautiful flower of containing in the theorywhich attracted a large number of poets to study the poetry essence. From the uniqueartistic perspective of "the language in language", Valery has been fusioning of music,philosophy and poetic emotion which migled with individuals and the world. And inoriginality they Valery has been decrypting the pure realm of poetry which isolating ofreality and concerning life.This kind of universe view coincide with personal feelingsand inject into the the poet’s philosophical thinking of the world, and actually lead thereader self-sneak into the ideal realm of a non-empty and real, non-virtual and perfectwhat the pure poetry brings.
