| Since the seventies of the twentieth century, system theory and modern system approach has been an attracting central topic of some international academic forum. In fact, there had been a long history of thought of nature system in human's knowledge history, which can date back to ancient China's magnificent culture and ancient Greece's abstruse thought of philosophy. Modern systematic thought has a concentrated reflection in the philosophic thought of such philosophers as Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Kant and Hegel. The establishment of Marxism dialectical materialism makes systematic thought develop into a brad-new stage. The thought of universal connection and entirety about material world, namely systematic thought, is one of important components of the dialectical materialism. After the system theory of modern idea of Marxism was pregnant with for 60 years, it developed into general system theory and modern system approach at last in the mid- twentieth century. However, the systematic thought in the social historical field appeared in modern times. It was put forward by Saint-Simen at first, and later, was developed by such thinkers as Comete, Spencer, Hegel, etc. Until the establishment of historical materialism of Marxism, social organism and systematic thought had been already relatively ripe, perfect, rational. However, it is the product of modern system approach, really using modern system approach to analyze the society and its development. The basic characteristic of the social development lies in its systematicness. Modern system approach is the important methodology basis of instructing social development study, setting up scientific social development theory and choosing correct social development view. System possesses such characteristics as entirety, level, dynamics, purpose of system, etc. which determine modern system approach that can be summarized such basic principles as entirety principle, level principle, open principle, purpose principle. Conforming with these basic principle, the view of the social development should separately be the view of comprehensive all-round development of the society, view of development in pluralism, sustainable development view and the view of all-round development of human, etc. The proposition and implementation of the view about comprehensive all-round development of society go through the sinuous process from single development view to satisfying development view and finally to comprehensive all-round development view. In the course of seeking development paths of developing countries, the following view of social development appeared successively: modernization theory, depending-on theory, global system theory and theory of pluralism development of world, etc. The sustainable development view of the society is setting against "two kinds of extremism"——sole-ecology doctrine and definite anthropocentrism .The production of the sustainable development view is a revolution in the view of overall development of human. The final home of any social development is to realize human's all-round development. The modern system approach is the important methodology basis of instructing contemporary China to realize development, choosing scientific development view, working out the social development strategy too. Contemporary China must "stick to putting people first and establish the view of overall coordinate and sustainable development to promote economy, society and people's overall development." The scientific implication of this new development view includes three points. Firstly, we must stick to putting people first and realize people's modernization. Secondly, we must adhere to the coordinate progress of the three civilizations and realize all-round development of the society. Thirdly, we must stick to harmonizing development and nature in order to realize the sustainable development of the society. This new development view conforms with modern system approach in nature.
