The May Fourth Movement "education Saves" Thoughts

Modern China had been in a semi-colony and semi-feudal situation for a long time with serious inner and outer problems. At the same time, the movement of "saving the country, making for living" had been a dominant social thought and practice. It also showed concrete content and corresponding behaviors in different historical phases and social estates. Especially in the period of " the May Fouth Movement", many new thinking and thoughts came forth when the collision and amalgamation of Chinese and western cultures occurred. Their base was the renovation in thinking. Every group's choice in cultures aimed at searching the way to save all country. The allegation of "saving the country by promoting education" was raised by intelligentsia patriots for the liberation and renaissance of the Chinese nation.This thesis analyses the background of "saving the country by promoting education" and discuses the fundamental allegation of main schools of thought, such as Huang yanpei's "saving country by promoting professional education" theory, Cai yuanpei's "saving country by promoting talented education" theory, Hu shi's "saving country by promoting pragmatism education.
