Brothers. "the Scholars" Image And Its Significance In The Composition Of Works

This paper systematically studies the group image of more than twenty pairs of brothers in The Scholars.First of all,through making case studies to several pairs of brothers who have representative meaning,it protrudes the author's successful portrayal of the images of brothers,all of whom have distinct personality.And on the basis of this,the dissertation classifies the images of brothers according to different standards:according to family ethics,it divides the relations between brothers into friendliness and estrangement,and through deeply studying to the images,it gets the information that Wu Jingzi highly praises friendly relations between brothers and mercilessly depreciates and satirizes estrangement between brothers,which shows his longing for friendly relations between brothers and the disillusion of his idea of friendliness and respect between brothers;according to temperament and the way of behaviour,it divides the images of brothers into the type of a kind and the type of different categories,strengthening the portrayal of the images of brothers through emphasizing aesthetic standards.The dissertation points out that the reason why Wu Jingzi can create so many images of brothers is that he has unforgettable brotherhood,the forming of which is indispensable to friendly relations between the ancestors of Wu Shi (people whose surname is Wu) , Wu Jingzi's own experience of estrangement between his brothers and clan disputes,and the bad social customs of internal dispute between brothers.The images of brothers,in orginal structure of The Scholars,functions not only as an obvious clue running through the plots of "fighting against fame and fortune"and "promoting to indicate the source of articles",but also as linds which constructs the whole novel.The images give impetus to the plot's development step by step and make the novel have distinct theme as well as orderly form.And the relations between characters are very closed.The attitudes of different brothers towards fame and fortune and the source of articles protrude and deepen the theme of the novel,and make readers,clearly see the social phenomena during the end of feudal society that patriarchal clan and blood relationshiq can't resist the temptation of fame and fortune and that ethics and morality have lost.Likewise,today's China,in which socialist market economy is developing day by day,is facing loss and disorder of ethics and morality.Money and power seem to have dominated everything.Under this situation,we,on one hand, can't treat the idea of utility as great scourges,but on the other hand,also can't let it spread out in case it destroys our nation.We should use Maxist views of ethical development,establishproper ethical value according with economic times,and govern our country with morality so as to resolve the present phenomenon of the landslop of morality.
