The Narrative Research On Yu Hua's Novel "Brothers"

Yuhua has been awarded quite a few honors since he started writing.Despite that his works are not of large numbers,they weigh a lot in literature.Writing through cold-bloodedness to compassion on the world,Yuhua finished his description related to the unchanged reality in his mind.All the effort I made,Yuhua said long before,was up to have the traditional approach to the contemporary,and this effort of approaching concretely reflected in the manner of narrating,in the disposal of the people and time,as well as language and structure,which I sought to show the most substantial things.The publication of 'Brothers' supported his narrative style,which describe the real innermost being in a so called 'hypocritical fashion'.Giving a lecture at Fudan University,Yuhua stated about the criticism and the appraisal on 'Brothers','Literature should not be produced by imagination,like soil to grass,literature out to have its soil.The kind of reality will have the kind of literature developed,so it's with the modernism literature and the realism literature.In modernism literature,writings no matter how written,even when they are absurd or illusory,strive to show their basis of flesh and blood.' Indeed the case,'Brothers' is absurd,but moreover realistic.Among so many noises of controversy on 'Brothers' from the critics,Yuhua is still holding faith in 'Brothers' just as in the reality.'Brothers' delineated the individual fate of ups and downs in the small environment of Liu Town through two eras from the cultural revolution to the reform and opening-up.Yuhua attempted to complete the 'strong narrative' by writing 'Brothers',and 'speak' for reality. Therefore,Yuhua not only deepened his original narrative artifice,but also attempted and carried out to break new ground.In the book 'Brothers',we observed to a certain extent that Yuhua remained his usual narrative style,but the absurd performance of the story and the sarcastic arrangements of the fate for the characters still suggested he had new understandings and queries of the reality.This thesis intends to use narratology theory to elaborate on the narrator,non-narrative words,time of narration,plot modal,characterization and the theme of the 'Brothers'.
