"Jin Lou Zi", which is written by Xiao Yi who hoped it would be passed down tothe following generations, does not attach any importance. In this article, I make acomprehensive expatiation on its content, mentality, and value.In the Overview, I make a general survey of the study results of scholars fromChinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan.The first chapter centers upon the judgements about the previous lieges, hisevaluation on literature and collection of history and novels.The second chapter brings forth his conception of literature and ideal through hisstatement on the nature, the development, the style, and the creation of literature. Italso thoroughly analyzes his mentality mixed with Confucianism, Taoism andBuddhism.The third chapter expounds the value of this work from three aspects: thehistory of literature, philology and the history of ideology.The last chapter summarizes the dissemination of "Jin Lou Zi".The appendix is made up of the annals of Xiao Yi and the bibliography.
