With The Structure Of Cognitive Mechanisms And Semantic Relations Research

Appositive structure is a very important structural form in Mandarin Chinese. Through a comprehensive study of appositive structure and an investigation into a large quantity of linguistic facts, we know that there is great difference in the interior of this structure, and it includes many different types of sub-categories that are restricted by different conditions. Those restrictions are made complicated as they are interrelated not only to the semantic properties of Noun, but also to the functional features of Pronoun. The dissertation is intended to give a detailed account of the categories and restrictions of the appositive structure, through large amounts of linguistic facts, in an attempt to properly and fully account for those linguistic facts in a theoretical way. The dissertation is composed of four chapters. According to the theory of reference , theory of description in linguistic philosophy and the basic-level categories in cognitive linguistics, the dissertation attempts to investigate the semantic relationship and structural restrictions of "NP+NP", "NP+PronP", "PronP+NP", "PronP+PronP". At the same time the linguistic facts are studied in the real situational context and are analyzed in a combined method of both statics and dynamics, and with a dynamic description. Besides, the dissertation makes a good explanation of the linguistic phenomenon and the cognitive mechanism and semantic relationship of its sub-categories.
