Based on drawing the outline of the present situation of literary anthropology and putting forward the new definition of it from the angle of anthropology, this dissertation advocates guiding the study of literary anthropology with four anthropological methods: field work, cultural relativism, holism and cross-cultural comparison, so that we can further the intensive research of this interdisciplinary course.It contains six chapters. The first chapter introduces the origin of methodological research of literary anthropology, reviews current situation of the study of literary anthropology in home and abroad, and then indicates the necessity of introducing the anthropological research methods to the field of literary anthropology. This chapter also concerns the intentions, significance and research methods of this dissertation.The second chapter gives a detailed introduction to the rising and development of the anthropological field work method, interprets the role of it in literary anthropological research, takes account of another research field of literary anthropology-the way of expressing in anthropology through literary form. The method of field work of anthropology is the most important and basic method in anthropological research. It is also the most distinctive feature of anthropology. Taking the writer's experience of field work about the ritual pray of Mongolian as example, this chapter demonstrates the vital methodological significanceof field work method in literary anthropology, especially in collecting, sorting out and researching oral literature materials. The chapter also explores the objectivity and feasibility of literary expression in anthropology.The third chapter introduces the method of cultural relativism in anthropology and discusses its status in the research of literary anthropology. Be guided by this method, we can correctly understand the value of oral and written, mainstream and non-mainstream literature.The fourth chapter explains the connotation of the method of holism in anthropology, and points out the two ways of research in literary anthropology in guide of this method. The introducing of this method to the field of literary anthropology contributes to the deep understanding of literature itself and makes us put the literature into the whole human culture to widen our vision of research.The fifth chapter discusses traits of the research method of cross-cultural comparison in anthropology, and interprets its application through the introduction of the problem that how literature constructs others' images under the cross-cultural context.The sixth chapter draws a conclusion on the methodology of literary anthropology.
