Antithetical couplets in Chinese and Vietnamese societies have a very important paper: In China, they are already deeply present in every house and business, preserving abundant couplets written in past dynasties, being temple couplets very well represented among them. In Vietnam, people has been historically influenced by Chinese culture, and writing antithetical couplets is a very old custom. Lots of them can be found in Vietnamese temples. For this reason, Chinese and Vietnamese temples antithetical couplets are the central point of this research work. I hope this work will help all the people who wants to understand better the Chinese and Vietnamese culture, as the previous works on antithetical couplets have been helpful to me.This research work consists in the following livesections:1. Introduction. A presentation of antithetical couplets, what are they and their different uses, and a explanation of the reason for this research work.2. The former antithetical couplets in China and Vietnam.3. The characteristics of Chinese and Vietnamese antithetical couplets. Regular patterns in China and Vietnam for writing antithetical couplets and how Vietnamese one's have been influenced by Chinese.4. China and Vietnam temples antithetical couplets culture.A list of several antithetical couplets from Chinese temples, and from Vietnamese temples, with a detailed explanation of their meaning.5. Conclusion. A discussion on the importance of antithetical couplets and a desire of continuity and development of their legacy.
