The Concept Of Authenticity With The Chinese Cultural Heritage Protection

This thesis deals with Authenticity —— an important concept in heritage theory and one typical cultural heritage case——General Yuan's grave and its watcher "She Family". The concept of heritage authenticity has been developed to be one of the basic theories of international heritage area. It is of great significance for people to value and protect heritage. It is helpful to explore and solve many problem in China's heritage protect area. Firstly, the acceptation of Authenticity will be discussed and a proper Chinese translation of Authenticity will be given. With introducing the development history of this concept, this thesis provides a description of trying to describe an all-around understanding to it. All the Authenticity Attributes contained in the international heritage documents are listed and explained. On the basis of authenticity test, the value of the heritage can be assessed in according to the criteria for valuing the world heritage's outstanding universal value.Then, using the Authenticity theory, the case of She Family watching General Yuan's grave is analyzed and valued. With great many of materials and records, the main Attributes of this case are analyzed. These attributes include: history and affairs, location, setting, architecture, function, management system, sprite and feeling. This analysis leads to one conclusion: this case is a rare heritage and the management system is its most valuable Authenticity Attributes. However, the government changed the management system in 2002, which destroyed the heritage's most valuable part. The research work to this case can help people understand the Authenticity of management system more deeply and vividly. In the end, the thesis explored the heritage protect blue print of She Family watching General Yuan's grave.
