The thesis studies the course of development of Beijing state fine arts education during 1917-1937, inquires into the preliminary state of China's modern fine arts education and its schooling modes at different phases, and researches the influence brought about by Japanese, Europe and America fine arts education at that time.The school system of Beijing state fine arts education underwent two important adjustments and one reorganization of branches of learning: change from "school" system to "university " system and from "university" system to "institute" system, coupled with the change from "fine arts" pattern to "art" one, through which the school system of China's modern fine arts education took shape, during the period when Beijing Fine Arts School was founded in 1918,and was forced to move to the south when Beiping State Art Institute in 1937 as a result of the July 7 incident of 1937. Definitely, Beijing state fine arts education serves as an excellent research case for that historical period. The essay sorts out the reforms at different phases, clarifies some key links and details once unclear or lost, and thus represents a framework for that special history, on basis of abundant archives, careful classification and comprehensive analysis. It is aimed at clearing up the historical facts through textual research of relevant historical documents.
