"Western Army" is a strong contingent that garrisoned the western area of Song Dynasty. By the end of Northern Song Dynasty, "Western Army" grew into the most effective fighting force of Song Dynasty. During the war between Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty, "Western Army" fought vigorously to resist invasion. It assisted the resistance of many cities, including Bianjing, capital of Song Dynasty twice, Taiyuan, Hejian and Zhongshan. When enemies surrounded the capital for the second time, Fanzhixu, delegate of Fivelu in Shanxi (a local official of the western area), gathered "Western Army" to assist the capital and founded "Organization Assembled Forces to Assist the Capital before Empire" (OAF), a leading organization to conduct the "Western Army" temporarily. The Historical records about this organization are very limited, but there are some documents called "Military and Political Documents on Northern Border of Song Dynasty" (MPD), chosen from "Literature on City of Heishui Hidden in Russia" (LCH), can provide us with some information about this organization. These documents are the reflection to the fighting and living condition of "Western Army" . At present, few scholars lay emphasis on these documents. So the author thinks it is necessary to make a systematic study of the documents concerning the military leading organization.This article explicates the topic from five aspects:The first part makes detailed examination on four pieces of documents about the "OAF" chosen from "LCH" .The second part explicates the nature, background and time when it existed and lasted of the "OAF" .
